About Kagome:
(Written in a rather biased, slightly ranty and probably uninformative way. You've been warned. ^_-)

The main character (okay, arguably) of the anime & manga series Inuyasha, Higurashi Kagome was pulled through a "time slip" on her 15th birthday that took her away from her normal life and dumped her into Japan's feudal age, 500 years in the past. Running from a rather creepy centipede demon took her into a forest where she finds someone (who is later revealed to be Inuyasha) pinned to a tree with an arrow. Given the choice of removing the arrow and freeing him or being eaten (or worse) by the demon, she chooses to free him, and our story begins. ^_^
Sounds like a typical setup, right? Yep, there's a whole subgenre of manga and anime dedicated to the "girl crosses time/space/dimension/realism to meet boy" situation. However, Kagome is NOT the heroine typical of said genre (and yes, I'm a Fushigi Yuugi fan. I'm not slamming anyone, but the stereotype *is* there). Kagome is intelligent, levelheaded and patient. Inuyasha might argue that point, since he's generally the only one who stirs in her what can turn into a rather volitale temper. Then again, Inuyasha could wear on the patience of a saint. ^_^ Kagome loves Inuyasha without hesitation or question, and quietly accepts the fact that she stands in Kikyou's shadow. Kagome is also much more than Inuyasha's damsel in distress - she can, will, and would rather take care of herself than have him swoop in and rescue her, no matter how romantic the ideal. She is, instead, his strength and his conscience. She believes, with all her heart, that Inuyasha is a good person despite his indifferent, badass facade. Slowly but surely, he begins to believe it, too, though he'd never admit it. ^_-
